Plenty of Creating

If you want to be happy, be.  --Leo Tolstoy

These last few days have been glorious and yes, happy.  Have a happy one too.

Art and Nature

Blending the beauty of nature with art. I am finding that the more I connect with nature the more I really "see."

Pumpkin Portraits

What I most like about October is thinking about the farmers that have worked with passion to present these wonderful pumpkins to all of us. Pumpkin patches are one of the best places to spend a Saturday evening during October.

For a while, I have wanted to start a journal for my little guy. Documenting moments like today was the reason I made this journal for him. I bought this spiral notebook at Office Depot for .50 cents. I found some strips of canvas and made some rubbings with pastels like I did with this past project.

On the back of the journal I collaged some orange paper and cut out some drawings my son made in his coloring notebook.

Layers of fabric and embellishments.

Hand-stitching of his name.

Close-up of the back cover.

Here is my little star at the pumpkin patch surrounded by these beauties.

I am such a blessed and lucky mom. The first entry in the journal I made for him describes this special day at the pumpkin patch.
(thank you Louie for the great title post suggestion)

First Signs

First sign of my basil. It's important to note that I am not the best person to keep plants. However, I decided that I wanted to have my own basil at home. Basil is the ultimate for me. I was so excited yesterday when I saw it saying hello.

On the Creative Road #3

When I see books on a shelf, it is an uplifting feeling. When I see books I made on a shelf, even more uplifting.

1. Etsy favorites: here, here, and here.

2. While looking for creative ways to spend time outdoors with my 2 year old son, I found this.

3. My sister (personal trainer/fitness instructor) shared this video on her facebook page a couple of days ago. Because sometimes we just need fun and creative ways to get us going. :-)

A Mix of Projects

The collage was an impromtu project with lots of layers and texture. Believe me when I say that molding paste lives in this collage. I haven't done a mixed collage in a while and so felt inspired when I saw this picture. It makes me think about how the act of letter writing has fallen behind. My goal is to sit down once in a while, write a letter to someone special in my life, go to the post office to actually buy a stamp, and mailed it like before.

I love when I can be busy with creative projects (when time allows). Photo editing has become a constant companion on my creative road. When I visited the amazing New York City last summer, I took many pictures which included this apartment building. And so it became part of photos to edit collection. See the original picture here.

Simply Magical

(publicity ad published with permission)

"If you can have 2-3 people that expand your life, that is enough." "The camera is the license to explore." "Our work offers a narrative suggestion. The audience completes the story." "There is self-doubt in the creative process." These are some of quotes that resonated with me the most last night. My creative time last night was "magical." I had the great pleasure of attending a lecture and image presentation by Maggie Taylor and her husband Jerry Uelsman. I first heard about Maggie's work through Craftcast. I listened to the interviews Alison conducted here and here several times. There is something mysterious about her work and the way she captures stories through powerful images. . See Maggie's work here. They both provided background information about specific pieces that allowed me to appreciate the creative process even more. An added bonus: they have a great sense of humor!!! When I saw the publicity ad from Richland College, I immediately put it on my calendar. If you ever have a chance to see them, put it on your calendar. Couldn't miss it. Didn't miss it. It was an amazing creative night for me.
